After Selene has completed all of her island challenge trials, she and Lillie perform a ritual that causes Nebby to evolve into the Legendary Pokémon Solgaleo S or Lunala M, who takes them to Ultra Space. Selene and Lillie travel to Poni Island to search for a way to find her. She ends up kidnapping Nebby and using its powers to unleash hordes of Ultra Beasts across the Alola region and travel to Ultra Space. Selene eventually finds out that Lusamine, the President of the Aether Foundation, is the mother of both Lillie and Gladion and obsessed with Ultra Beasts. She also learns about Ultra Beasts, mysterious creatures that exist in a dimension called Ultra Space and about Professor Kukui's dream of building an Alolan Pokémon League.
